Ferrara gets Juve backing after crisis meeting

Juventus deputy director general Roberto Bettega reiterated his support for coach Ciro Ferrara following a three-hour meeting of club officials on Monday afternoon.

Bettega gave Ferrara a vote of confidence on Sunday after the 1-0 defeat at Chievo - Juve's fourth league loss in five games - saw the Bianconeri slip 13 points behind Serie A leaders Inter Milan.

After a lengthy meeting with club president Jean-Claude Blanc and director of football Alessio Secco this afternoon, Bettega emerged and reinforced his backing of Ferrara.

"We go forward with Ferrara, as we always said," he told Corriere dello Sport. "He came out smiling from this meeting and this is already an answer. Have we told Ferrara that the problem was him? No, evidently we did not have to tell him that."

As for any imminent activity in the January transfer market, Bettega said: "Today we secured the first purchase. Sissoko's return from the African Nations Cup is a valuable reinforcement."
