Last-gasp Stoke deny Reds, Chelsea smash seven

Robert Huth piled more pressure on Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez when his 90th-minute equaliser gave Stoke City a 1-1 draw at the Britannia Stadium and denied the Reds a morale-boosting victory.

The misfiring visitors, missing star duo Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, had led from the 57th minute when Greece defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos scrambled the ball home from a free kick.

Liverpool looked to have won the points, but in the 89th minute, Stoke's relentless pressure paid off when Huth scored at the far post after Benitez's side failed to deal with a corner.

England midfielder Frank Lampard and France striker Nicolas Anelka both scored twice as Chelsea crushed Sunderland 7-2 at Stamford Bridge to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League.

Strikes from Florent Malouda, Michael Ballack and a superb goal from left-back Ashley Cole completed a comfortable afternoon for Carlo Ancelotti's side.

Sunderland scored consolation goals through substitute Bolo Zenden and Darren Bent but Steve Bruce's side have now failed to win for eight games.

Manchester United striker Mame Biram Diouf scored his first goal for his new club as Brian Laws' battling Burnley were eventually beaten 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Following a scoreless first half, Dimitar Berbatov broke the deadlock just after the hour mark when his shot flicked off Michael Duff and flew past Clarets' goalkeeper Brian Jensen.

Wayne Rooney added his 16th goal of the season shortly afterwards and substitute Diouf added another to leave new Burnley boss Laws to reflect on the failure of both Steven Fletcher and David Nugent to convert golden opportunities.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini had to endure the bitter taste of defeat for the first time since taking charge after losing 2-0 against Everton at Goodison Park.

The Toffees were good value for their victory and sealed the points in the first half. Steven Pienaar made the breakthrough in the 36th minute and Louis Saha extended their lead from the spot after Micah Richards pulled the striker's shirt to give away a penalty.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp endured a frustrating 500th game as a Premier League manager after heroics from Boaz Myhill earned Hull City a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane.

Myhill pulled off a string of fine saves to deny Spurs, who equalled their club record of five consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League but will be disappointed not to have found a way past Hull's goalkeeper.

James McCarthy celebrated his first Premier League start by setting Wigan Athletic on the way to a 2-0 victory, their first win in six games, against fellow strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

McCarthy, signed last summer from Hamilton, followed up his debut goal against Hull City in the FA Cup with the 59th-minute opener before Charles N'Zogbia added the second for the Latics.

Wolves goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann also saved a Hugo Rodallega penalty and both sides ended the game with ten men as Wolves defender Richard Stearman and Wigan midfielder Hendry Thomas were sent off.

Portsmouth's home match against Birmingham City was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Fratton Park.
