Reading have agreed a deal to sign Stoke City defender Andy Griffin on loan, caretaker manager Brian McDermott revealed on Monday evening.
Griffin, 30, has made just three appearances for the Potters this season, all in the Carling Cup, and is reported to have already trained with his new team-mates at the Madejski Stadium.
Neither club has formally confirmed the deal, which is believed to run until the end of the season, but McDermott is looking forward to having Griffin at his disposal.
"Andy's a terrific lad who can play anywhere across the back four, but he's come here to play games and fill in at right back," McDermott told getreading.
"He's got experience at this level and in the Premier League with Stoke and his previous clubs, he'll be a good addition to the squad."
Griffin began his career as a trainee with Stoke in 1996 before embarking on a career that has encompassed spells with Newcastle, Portsmouth and Derby. He rejoined Stoke on a permanent basis in January 2008 and made 21 Premier League appearances last season.
