Landon Donovan not fazed by Premier League leap

On-loan Everton forward Landon Donovan has no concerns about making the transition from Major League Soccer to the Premier League.

The United States international has started a ten-week temporary spell while the Los Angeles Galaxy are still on a close-season break.

MLS is regarded in derogatory terms in relation to the standard of football but Donovan, who is a 120-cap international and the USA's record goalscorer, is keen to show he can cope in one of the world's top leagues.

"Obviously MLS is not the Premier League and we all know that but I've played in big games,'' said the 27-year-old. "I played a few at the beginning of last year with Bayern Munich (where he had a similar loan deal), World Cup qualifiers and the Confederations Cup.

"There will be an adjustment period as I get used to the style here as the game is very different but I'm going to try to adapt very quickly. It's going to take a little bit of time but I feel pretty close to being as fit as I can be and obviously playing games will get that final piece of fitness.''

Donovan is likely to come up against many of the England players he will face on international duty at this summer's World Cup and he admits he is keen to test himself against them on a more regular basis.

"It will be good to play against some of these and gauge where you're at against them,'' he added.

Donovan even found something positive to say about the current cold snap in England, having left Los Angeles where the current daytime temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius.

"The weather's a bit different - although from what I hear this is a bit abnormal to have it this cold and the snow to stick around,'' he said. "But coming from America it is nice to play in cold weather as you can run a little bit more and I think I've adapted quite well.''

Donovan has declared himself fully fit despite not playing a match for more than a month and is keen to kick off his Everton career as soon as possible. And although manager David Moyes may be reluctant to involve him against Arsenal at the Emirates tomorrow, the American is ready for the challenge.

"Arsenal are a very good team playing very well right now,'' he said. "I would hope to play and it would be a great experience but I'm here to help this team win, whatever that takes.''
