Essien completes treatment ahead of Togo clash

Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has completed his treatment following his hamstring injury and is set to link up with the Ghana squad on Saturday.

Essien has been out of action since he was forced off during the 2-2 Champions League draw with APOEL Nicosia on December 8 at Stamford Bridge, and there had been fears he could be ruled out of the African Cup of Nations in Angola as a result.

However, Ghana boss Milovan Rajevac has revealed the player has now overcome the problem and, while he is set to remain with Chelsea for further fitness work, he could now feature in his country's opening match against Togo on Monday.

"We received a letter from Chelsea and he has finished his treatment," he told Kick Off Ghana. "They suggested that he should stay with them for another two days with the club physio and do two days of training with the first team, so he would join us in Angola probably on Saturday."
