Coyle tells Burnley he wants Bolton job

Burnley manager Owen Coyle has told the club he wants to leave Turf Moor to take the vacant manager's job at Bolton Wanderers.

• On The Move: Live transfer blog

Coyle, who played for Bolton between 1993-95, held talks with the Trotters over the weekend before meeting with Burnley chairman Barry Kilby on Monday night.

The 43-year-old, rated as one of the best young managers in the British game, turned down the chance to manage Celtic in the summer and was also linked with the Scotland job last month.

He will take over at Bolton with the club in the relegation zone, two points behind Burnley with two games in hand. One of those matches comes at Arsenal on Wednesday night, though Coyle is unlikely to be in charge for that match.

Bolton sacked former boss Gary Megson six days ago and have moved swiftly to bring in a manager known for attractive football following Megson's hugely unpopular tenure.

Burnley and Bolton are yet to agree on a compensation package for the manager. The Clarets are thought to want around £3 million.

A Burnley statement read: "Owen Coyle has today reaffirmed his desire to leave Burnley Football Club and join Bolton Wanderers Football Club.

"Burnley Football Club will now enter discussions with Bolton Wanderers Football Club, due to the fact that compensation between the two parties has yet to be agreed.

"There will be no further comment at this time.''

Coyle, after previous spells in charge of Falkirk and St Johnstone, took over at Turf Moor in November 2007. He quickly established a good reputation in England as his Burnley side impressed in cup competitions and then won promotion to the top flight - after a 33-year absence - via the play-offs.

Bolton are yet to comment.
