Werder Bremen's Mesut Ozil tops Bundesliga award list
Werder Bremen midfielder Mesut Ozil has been named by his fellow professionals as the best player of the first half of the Bundesliga season.
Ozil obtained 38.1% of a vote held by Kicker magazine in which 228 Bundesliga players were asked their opinion on who had made the biggest impact over the first four months of the campaign.
Fellow Germany international Stefan Kiessling, who leads the Bundesliga goalscoring charts with 12 goals, took 22.9% of the vote and finished second ahead of Hamburg's Ze Roberto. The Brazilian secured 9.6% even though he missed the last month due to injury.
Rene Adler took the prize of best goalkeeper ahead of German compatriots Tim Wiese and Manuel Neuer.
Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel earned the best coach award after his first four months in the profession. He beat Jupp Heynckes and Felix Magath into second and third respectively.
