Solano jets in to seal Colchester United switch

Former Newcastle United midfielder Nolberto Solano flew to England this weekend to join League One (third division) side Colchester United, the ex-Peru captain told a local newspaper.

"I'm going for six months to play for Colchester United. Talks are already at an advanced stage and I'm travelling to complete the deal," Solano was quoted as saying by El Comercio's website at Lima airport before departure.

"It's a lovely opportunity at 35 years of age to still be considered... My plan is to end my (playing) career as a coach and look for work there (in England). If I can play another year so much the better," added Solano, who helped Universitario win the Peruvian league title last month.

Colchester are in fourth place in the League One table.

Solano spent a decade in England's Premier League with Newcastle, Aston Villa and West Ham United. He then had a brief spell at Larissa in Greece before returning home to Peru early last year.
