Wenger: No fresh contact with Marouane Chamakh
Arsene Wenger insists he has not made any contact with Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh since the summer and expects the striker to stay with the Ligue 1 champions until the end of the season.
Arsenal were known admirers of Chamakh before the season started and, following the injury to Robin van Persie, there had been suggestions that Wenger was ready to make a fresh attempt to sign the player in January.
However, Bordeaux appear unwilling to sell Chamakh for a cut-price fee despite the fact he will be out of contract in the summer, and Wenger says he fully expects the player to see out the remainder of his deal at Stade Chaban Delmas.
"Chamakh will stay in Bordeaux until the end of the season and then he will go where he wants to go because he will be completely free," he said. "There is nothing concrete at all between us and Chamakh.
"He is completely free at the end of the year and I have not been in touch with his agent at all. It came up in June and it's true that in June I wanted to take him but since we have had no contact at all."
