Kris Boyd "delighted" to surpass Henrik Larsson's SPL record

Kris Boyd hailed his five-goal spree against Dundee United as his greatest night as a Rangers player after overtaking Henrik Larsson as the SPL's most prolific goalscorer ever.

• Rangers 7-1 Dundee United

The striker stole the show as Rangers romped to a 7-1 win at Ibrox as he brought his tally of SPL goals to 160 - two more than the Celtic legend.

Boyd is well aware of how highly regarded Larsson still is in Scotland and admitted he was proud to write his own name into the history books.

"It is my best night because to get past someone like Henrik Larsson is a great achievement and it's one I'm proud of doing,'' he said. "I'm delighted to go past Henrik Larsson but I'm greedy and I want more goals. We set out tonight to get the three points and we have done that.

"The result maybe flattered us a little bit but the three points have set us up nicely to go to Parkhead on Sunday.''

Confidence will now be sky high in the Rangers camp ahead of this weekend's Old Firm derby and Boyd was keen to switch the focus to the clash at Celtic Park, rather than ponder what his next personal target might be.

He said: "The next target for me is to get the three points on Sunday and, if I manage to get on the scoresheet, it's a bonus. The most important thing is getting the three points and that's what we will set out to do. That's what brings trophies home and that's what we aim to do here.''

Boyd also struck five against United when he was a Kilmarnock player and, when asked if he had something against the Tannadice side, he joked: "I like them! There is always a team that you seem to score more against and Dundee United has been mine and I've managed to do that tonight again.''

Meanwhile, Rangers striker Kenny Miller will miss Sunday's Old Firm derby after losing his appeal against his red card in the Dundee United game.

Miller was sent off by referee Willie Collum for kicking out at United defender Darren Dods during his side's 7-1 victory at Ibrox.

Rangers were adamant video evidence would clear their player but in a statement, the Scottish Football Association said: "In accordance with the provisions for claims of wrongful dismissal, the referee, William Collum, was requested to review the circumstances of the player's sending off, in conjunction with the Referee Development Department.

"The referee has indicated that he is content with his decision, after confirmation of the player's violent conduct using both arm and leg.

"The claim is therefore dismissed automatically and will not be referred to the review panel.

"The player's automatic one-match suspension is applied, with 12 penalty points added to his disciplinary record."
