Bosnia appoint Susic as new head coach

Bosnia named Safet Susic as their new national coach on Tuesday following the resignation of Miroslav Blazevic.

"The NFSBiH executive board made a unanimous decision that Susic, the Bosnian best soccer player ever, will be the new coach," Jasmin Bakovic, deputy secretary of the Bosnian soccer federation (NFSBiH), told reporters.

The 54-year-old Susic started his coaching career in 1994 with French club Cannes and managed teams in Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

Susic enjoyed his best years as a player with French club Paris St-Germain and represented Yugoslavia more than 50 times.

"I have been offered this post many times but now that Bosnia has such a strong team it is a great honour for me and I accept it," Susic told national radio.

Blazevic resigned after Bosnia lost to Portugal in their World Cup playoff last month, missing out on a place at next year's finals in South Africa. He accepted a lucrative contract to coach Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.
