Hearts' Goncalves banned for Edinburgh derby

Hearts defender Jose Goncalves is suspended from the new year Edinburgh derby at Hibernian, the Scottish Football Association have confirmed.

Goncalves' yellow card in the Premier League victory over Celtic took him over the disciplinary points threshold and means he will sit out the January 3 trip to Easter Road.

The 24-year-old was booked by referee Willie Collum during the 2-1 win over the Hoops after preventing Marc-Antoine Fortune from taking a quick free-kick seven minutes from time.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Izale MacLeod has had to put a training session with Hearts on hold due to the freezing weather conditions. Charlton striker MacLeod was expected to fly into Scotland on Tuesday for Jambos boss Csaba Laszlo to run the rule over him with a view to a loan move but that has now been put on hold until next week at least.

Hearts have revived their interest in 25-year-old McLeod, who was on their radar during the summer. They failed to reach a fee with Charlton for the former England Under-21 international, according to his agent, Tony Finnigan.

Finnigan said: "In the last transfer window I spoke to Sergi Fedotovas (Hearts director) but they could not agree a price. That was just left but they have chased it up again and they are talking about a loan with a possible review. I am just waiting for him to give me a call to decide.

"He (McLeod) will have a look around today (Monday) and possibly train on Tuesday and then come back down. I have lived in Edinburgh so I know what it's like. It's a nice city and I know they have the derby there between Hearts and Hibs.

"It's a good club and I told him to go and have a look before you commit yourself as before he would have just gone up there without thinking. The talking is pretty much standard because when you are on loan you just take over the contract and he is not on massive wages so that side of it will be okay.''
