Jez Moxey denies Mick McCarthy-Steve Morgan rift

Wolverhampton Wanderers chief executive Jez Moxey has rejected suggestions that Mick McCarthy's contentious team selection against Manchester United has driven a rift between the manager and the club's chairman, Steve Morgan.

McCarthy courted controversy when he made ten changes to his side and lost 3-0 at Old Trafford, with his team selection drawing scrutiny from the Premier League and criticism from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

It is also reported that Morgan was none too impressed with McCarthy's approach but with a refreshed first XI beating Burnley 2-0 at the weekend, it appears his decision paid dividends. Moxey has now denied that there is any difference of opinion between the two men.

"There are no problems at all between Mick and Steve," Moxey told the Express and Star. "As has always been the case since he arrived at the club, Steve has a very strong relationship with the manager and that remains.

"Nothing should be read into the fact that the chairman has chosen not to say anything publicly. Steve has consistently and deliberately kept a low media profile since he took over, talking occasionally rather than commenting on day-to-day issues. That duty falls to me.

"The chairman is the busiest man I know, but dialogue regularly takes place between the three of us. We work hard on maintaining healthy relationships within the club, because it's important to be unified."
