New Wolfsburg chief backs head coach Armin Veh

Wolfsburg's new managing director Dieter Hoeness has assured coach Armin Veh his position is safe.

Hoeness, who ended a 13-year spell as general manager of Hertha Berlin in the summer, has signed a three-year contract and will take up his post on January 15.

The defending champions have turned to the 56-year-old as they look to turn around their season. They lie in eighth position at the midway stage of the season, 11 points adrift of league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Veh only took over from Felix Magath in the summer when the title-winning boss left for Schalke.

"It (his appointment) is definitively not depriving Armin Veh of power,'' said Hoeness. "It's about the responsibility for the club. The subject will soon be forgotten when they results come.''

He added on the club's official website: "I am looking forward to the co-operation with the board and with Armin Veh.''
