Indiana names Wisconsin's Yeagley coach

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Todd Yeagley is following in his father's footsteps at Indiana.

Yeagley, the son of former Hoosiers soccer coach Jerry Yeagley, was named to the same position at Indiana on Friday.

Todd Yeagley, whose father won six national titles -- the last in 2003 -- in 41 years with the Hoosiers, was an All-American and national player of the year at Indiana, where he played from 1991-1994.

Before serving as head coach at Wisconsin last year, the 37-year-old Yeagley was an assistant at Indiana from 2004-08. He also played with the Columbus Crew in MLS from 1996-2002.

The Badgers tied Indiana for fourth place in the Big Ten at 3-3 after finishing in last place (1-4-1) the year before Yeagley's arrival.

Indiana fired coach Mike Freitag earlier this month, five years after he led the Hoosiers to the NCAA championship in his first season. Freitag was 86-32-19 in six seasons, ending his tenure with a third-round loss in this year's NCAA tournament.
