Farina sues Roar over sacking

Former Australia coach Frank Farina is suing Brisbane Roar for A$325,000, alleging the A-league club "significantly damaged" his reputation in the way it handled his sacking after a drink-driving charge.

Farina, who was sacked as coach in October after being charged for his second drink-driving offence in less than three years, also said statements by club officials had hurt his employment prospects, according to court documents local media have reported.

At the time of his sacking, Farina hinted to media he felt Brisbane were using the drink driving charge as an excuse to remove him for other reasons, and that the club was making a scapegoat of Farina for its own off-the-field issues including plummeting crowds.

Farina wants to be paid out the remainder of his contract - an outlay the financially troubled club avoided because the former Socceroo had broken the terms of his deal with his indisrection - and is chasing damages for a loss of future employment prospects.

Brisbane's prospects haven't improved since Farina was replaced by Ange Postecoglou, with the club still languishing towards the bottom of the A-League and registering its lowest ever crowd in the 1-0 loss to fellow strugglers Adelaide United on Saturday.
