Miller 'will be a hit' on Gold Coast

Gold Coast United duo Jason Culina and Michael Thwaite have both backed new recruit Charlie Miller to settle quickly at the A-League club.

Miller was picked up by United after he was released by Brisbane earlier this month, the former Scottish international making his debut in Sunday's 3-2 loss to Newcastle.

The playmaker created United's first goal in that match, sending Shane Smeltz clear before the New Zealand striker was felled in the penalty area.

Smeltz picked himself up to score the goal which levelled the scores at 1-1 and Socceroo Culina says the goal highlighted what Miller brings to the club.

"That was the first time I have been on the field with him and I think we established a good understanding straight away," Culina said in a club statement.

"Charlie is a lovely guy and a very good player; he showed on Sunday what great touches he has. He's very smart, understands the game so well and I'm really happy that he's here with us."

Vice-captain Thwaite echoed Culina's sentiments, saying the Gold Coast's upcoming string of four home matches would bring out the best in the Scot.

"He gets into great positions and can be very dangerous in the role he plays," Thwaite said.

"I'm sure we will see the best of him during our run of home games over the Christmas period.

"These next four home games will be vital for us and we hope the fans will come out during their holidays and get behind us."

Gold Coast's next match is against Perth on Sunday, ahead of a Boxing Day blockbuster against the Roar.

"Stringing a few results together is vital and we have to take advantage of these home games - its a very important period of the season that we're heading into now," Culina said.
