Real Zaragoza have sacked coach Marcelino following Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Athletic Bilbao in La Liga, club president Eduardo Bandres was quoted as saying.
"The club has taken the decision to dismiss Marcelino," Bandres told a news conference according to Marca.
"In football you can have an opinion about everything but one thing is indisputable and that is results," he added. "They are figures and they condition everything."
The home defeat, which prompted supporters at the Romareda to unfurl a banner saying "These fans don't deserve such humiliation," left promoted Zaragoza just above the relegation zone in 17th place with just three wins from their 14 games.
As newspaper said second team coach Jose Aurelio Gay would take charge of the first team on a temporary basis.
