Benoit Assou-Ekotto in supporter confrontation

Tottenham full-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto was involved in an ugly confrontation with a supporter after the 1-0 defeat to Wolves at White Hart Lane.

Assou-Ekotto confronted the fan, who was sat to the left of the dug-out and tunnel at Spurs' ground.

Assistant boss Joe Jordan hauled the Cameroon international away and led him down the tunnel.

Jordan later gave his version of events to Spurs' security team, who also took the details from a man in the crowd.

One eye-witness said the Spurs defender raised his hands to the supporter's neck after receiving verbal abuse.

The incident is likely to be captured on camera as it was so close to the tunnel, and the Football Association could look into the matter.

"We are aware of the incident and we are investigating,'' said a Spurs spokesperson. "The police are speaking to everyone involved.''

Police confirmed on Sunday that Assou-Ekotto is facing an investigation into the incident.

A spokesman said: "The police are investigating an allegation of assault following yesterday's Spurs v Wolves Premier League match at White Hart Lane. There have been no arrests."
