David Moyes backs groundshare calls

David Moyes has indicated that he supports suggestions Everton and Liverpool would benefit from sharing a stadium on Merseyside.

The issue of groundsharing is a thorny one but Everton are currently assessing their options after seeing plans for a move to Kirkby fall through when communities secretary John Denham rejected the project.

Liverpool, too, have had their problems with plans for stadium expansion after Tom Hicks and George Gillett were forced to delay work on a new ground due to the adverse economic climate.

English clubs have never really embraced the culture of groundsharing that has worked in places such as Milan and Munich, but Moyes would not be against seeing Merseyside added to that list.

"I would be interested but I know there would be concerns," Moyes told the Liverpool Daily Post. "In this country we don't do it. For whatever reason we don't do it in this country. But it may well work here in Liverpool. It could do.

"I think we would probably be interested because we don't have a stadium. We would like to move to a new ground where we can bring in more revenue.

"Perhaps Liverpool don't need us as much as we maybe need them but I'm not against it. As long as it was done correctly, and giving us the same rights as Liverpool, I would be more than up for it."
