Brown: Change of Hull chairman ''doesn't affect me''

Under-fire Hull City boss Phil Brown has insisted that a change of chairman at the club "does not affect me".

• Harry Harris on Phil Brown
• Chairman Duffen resigns
• Dean Windass: Sack Brown
• Hull deny Brown sacking
• Accountants warn Tigers

Speaking at a press conference, which lasted a matter of minutes, Brown read out a brief statement regarding the departure of chairman Paul Duffen, praising him for his contribution to the success of the club and for the pair's working relationship.

Brown said Duffen's departure was for business reasons and not for footballing ones and insisted he was "not allowed to comment on the business".

He said: "I spoke for a long time with Paul Duffen and (owner) Russell Bartlett over the past couple of days and the replacement chairman will be announced after Saturday's game. It does not affect me, as Russell Bartlett said over the last 24 hours."

Looking forward to the game at Burnley, Brown refused to be drawn on what impact a defeat would have on his future, re-iterating that the players are ''one million percent behind him'' and that it is a manager's job to win games.

"You have been live at the training ground and it was no surprise that you've seen the response,'' he said. "I think the players are one million percent behind me and hopefully that will show in the performance on Saturday.

"As you've seen on the training ground there are some bright lively players looking to put their case forward to play on Saturday. The support of Paul Duffen was there for everybody to see, that's gone now. What is around the corner you can only guess, and only time will tell who his replacement is.

"I don't think it was on football results, I think it was on the business of football. It's difficult to separate the two, but you do tend to run a business as well as a football club. I run the football side of things and I remain in charge for the game on Saturday.''

When questioned further on his own future, an increasingly frustrated Brown repeatedly responded: "I'm here to talk to you about the game against Burnley." He added: ''I cannot and will not respond to ridiculous speculation surrounding the business of this football club, whether it is reference to the accounts or replacement of Paul.

"I am here specifically to talk to you about the game on Saturday, but I will finish this statement by wishing Paul Duffen all the very best for the future from myself and all of my backroom staff."
