Hull: Phil Brown not sacked

Hull City have issued a statement denying rumours that manager Phil Brown has been sacked. Reports had suggested that the Tigers boss had been given the boot at the KC Stadium amid calls for his removal from ex-players and after UK bookmakers stopped taking bets on his departure.

A statement from Hull read: "Contrary to media speculation the club can confirm that Phil Brown has not been sacked and remains the manager of Hull City Football Club.''

But Brown remains a manager under pressure. Hull have recorded only three wins in their last 32 Premier League games. A 0-0 draw against Portsmouth at the weekend saw a number of fans vocalise their frustration, although chairman Paul Duffen has remained ever supportive of Brown in public.

However, an insider told ESPN Soccernet: "Phil Brown has not been sacked and he has not resigned. But there has been things going on which might mean things change in the future, who knows. Managers are judged by results, and Hull are in the bottom three."

Following promotion to the Premier League under Brown, Hull made a flying start to last season, beating the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham to spark talk of an unlikely European challenge, but their form fell away before Christmas.

An unconventional team-talk, when he left his players out in the centre circle at half-time of a defeat to Manchester City, as well as his impromptu karaoke following the club's success at avoiding relegation on the final day of the season, saw Brown become a figure of amusement amongst the general footballing public.

Earlier on Wednesday, former Hull striker Dean Windass - who scored the goal that took the Tigers to the Premier League in 2008 - called for Brown's reign to be brought to a swift end.

"I think sometimes you need a fresh change," Windass told talkSPORT Magazine. "Phil's done a fantastic job since he's been there but I think it's time that he should get moved on and bring somebody else in."

Duffen's position as chairman remains in doubt and following Adam Pearson decision to quit Derby County, rumours are rife that he will take Duffen's place at the Tigers.
