Cheltenham suspend Allen following allegations

Cheltenham Town have suspended Martin Allen in the wake of allegations that the manager racially abused a nightclub bouncer.

Reports in the local press on Tuesday morning contained allegations that Allen was involved in a 'foul-mouthed tirade' at doorstaff at the Thirteen Degrees nightclub in Cheltenham.

The League Two club, who are currently struggling in 20th place, have responded by placing Allen on gardening leave while they look into the alleged incident.

"Due to adverse reports in the press today regarding Martin Allen the board of directors have informed Martin that he will not be required to attend work pending the outcome of an investigation into the allegations that have been reported," read a club statement.

"Martin Allen has therefore been placed on garden leave and John Schofield has been asked to take temporary charge of team affairs pending the outcome of the club's investigation."
