Bruins unbeaten in nine games

No. 4 UCLA captured its second straight shutout with a 2-0 win over No. 18 Stanford on Sunday afternoon in front of 1,154 fans at Drake Stadium. The win increased the Bruins' unbeaten streak to nine games. Freshman Chandler Hoffman and senior Sean Alvarado each had a goal, and Michael Stephens had two assists for UCLA, which improved its record to 8-1-2, 3-0-2 in the Pac-10. Stanford's record dropped to 8-3-1, 2-2-1 in the Pac-10.

In a defensive struggle, Hoffman struck first for UCLA in the 32nd minute. After receiving a pass from Stephens just inside the box, he placed a right-footed shot past Stanford goalkeeper John Moore. The goal was Hoffman's fourth of the year.

The Bruins doubled their lead in the 74th minute through Alvarado's second goal of the season.

UCLA senior goalkeeper Brian Perk recorded the shutout, his second consecutive and third in six games played this year. In his three games back since returning to Westwood from the FIFA U-20 World Cup, he has posted a 0.38 goals against average with two shutouts. His overall season goals against average is 0.54.
