No Swede dreams for Fulham manager Hodgson

Roy Hodgson has distanced himself from reports that he is on the shortlist to replace Lars Lagerback as Sweden manager, underlining that he is happy at Fulham.

Sweden are searching for a new manager after Lagerback's nine-year spell at the helm of the national side came to an end following the country's failure to qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Afirca.

Notts County director of football Sven Goran Eriksson was one name immediately linked with the post and Hodgson is also believed to be interesting the Swedish Football Association having worked in the country for club sides Halmstads, Orebro and Malmo.

But the Fulham manager, who led the club to Europa League qualification last season, is quick to state he remains content with life at Craven Cottage.

"I can't say it would surprise me I suppose," Hodgson said. "I spent 12 years there, I suppose that I and [former Malmo boss] Bob Houghton are given a lot of credit for being father figures of the way that Sweden has gone about its business for the last 20 odd years. So I suppose I shouldn't say I would be surprised to hear that I was on a list of candidates.

"They've always gone for Swedish coaches and I'd be very, very surprised if they don't go for another Swedish coach. Secondly I'm quite happy here so hopefully my time here will continue a bit longer."

Hodgson has enjoyed spells as Switzerland and Finland manager during a much-travelled career.
