Olic out for six weeks

Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olic has piled more injury misery on coach Louis van Gaal with news that he will be ruled out for six weeks after sustaining a calf injury on international duty with Croatia.

• Van Gaal confident despite deficit

Olic, who has two goals in eight Bundesliga games this season, damaged the muscle in training on Friday and has been ruled out of the key World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan on Wednesday night.

Croatia are a point behind second-placed Ukraine in Group Six with the team which finishes runners-up to England qualifying for the play-offs.

Olic is set to miss Bayern's crucial Champions League double-header with Bordeaux, as well as important Bundesliga fixtures including the visits of table-topping Bayer Leverkusen and third-place Schalke 04 to the Allianz Arena.

The striker's absence is a huge blow to stuttering Bayern with coach Louis van Gaal currently without star wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.
