Turkey coach Terim resigns after Belgium loss

Turkey coach Fatih Terim plans to quit after his team's last World Cup qualifier, following their failure to reach the finals in South Africa next summer.

• Belgium 2-0 Turkey

Saturday night's 2-0 defeat in Belgium, coupled with Bosnia-Herzegovina's earlier 2-0 win in Estonia, ended any slim hopes the Turks harboured of nicking second spot and a play-off berth from Group Five.

Terim, whose contract was extended to 2012 after Turkey reached the semi-finals of Euro 2008 last summer, has decided Wednesday's game against Armenia in Bursa will be his last after four years at the helm.

"The match we play against Armenia will be my farewell match," said the 56-year-old former Fiorentina, AC Milan and Galatasaray boss.

"We started (the qualifying campaign) well but we failed to maintain any sort of consistency."
