Bent crushed by late goal

Sunderland striker Darren Bent admitted Manchester United's stoppage-time equaliser was a crushing blow as the Black Cats went close to a shock win at Old Trafford.

Bent, who opened the scoring in the 2-2 draw, recognised a draw was a creditable result against the Premier League champions. But Anton Ferdinand's late own goal, when he turned in Patrice Evra's off-target shot, was a bitter blow for the visitors.

• Harry Harris: Harris: Time to end the uncertainty

"(I'm) really disappointed,'' Bent told ESPN. "I thought the boys played really, really well. We worked really hard. You know what Manchester United are going to be like at home, they're going to come at us, come at us, come at us.

"It's a good point in the end because if you come to Old Trafford and get anything you've done well, but obviously we're dejected not to get all three points.''

Bent's fellow Sunderland scorer Kenwyne Jones, who looked to have got the winner when he headed past Ben Foster in the second half, echoed the suggestion that a draw at Old Trafford is a highly respectable outcome.

However he was wary of United's threat heading into time added on, knowing how often Sir Alex Ferguson's side have found important late goals.

Jones said: "We definitely can take a lot of positives from this game. We didn't come to sit back at Old Trafford. The game at Old Trafford is never finished until it's finished and as you can see they always have a tendency to come back.

"But the team played really well and we got a great point here today.''
