Hertha coach Favre dismissed after sixth defeat

Lucien Favre has paid the price for a disastrous run of form at Hertha Berlin after the German club announced on Monday that they have parted company with their manager.

Favre had presided over a run of six successive defeats, culminating in a humbling 5-1 loss at the hands of Hoffenheim on Sunday.

With Hertha rock bottom of the league and struggling to stem the flow of goals conceded the club have now acted to remove Favre and temporarily replace him with Under-23 manager Karsten Heine.

After the heavy defeat to Hoffenheim, Favre had appealed for calm in what was to prove his final public declaration as Hertha manager.

"The game was as good as over after 20 minutes," said Favre after the defeat to Hoffenheim. "After that things were difficult. Raffael's goal gave us a bit of hope, and if we had scored a second goal we could have turned things around.

"Sadly that didn't happen. Of course nobody is satisfied with the predicament we are currently in, but there is no point in making emotional assessments so soon after the end of the match."

Favre enjoyed real success with Hertha last season when leading them to fourth place in the Bundesliga. They even remained in contention for the title with two games of the season remaining.
