Nachoff matches Akron record with four assists

Midfielder Michael Nanchoff matched a 43-year school record as the top-ranked University of Akron men's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 victory over Bowling Green in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.

Nanchoff, who missed the entire 2008 season due to an illness, became one of just three players in the history of the UA program to record four assists in a single game.

The Zips (7-0-0, 1-0-0 MAC) received six goals from five different players while also racking up seven assists against the Falcons (1-6-2, 0-1-0). For the game, UA owned advantages over BGSU in a number of categories, including shots (21-2), shots on goal (11-0) and corner kicks (7-1), and were never legitimately threatened.

"Our goal coming into this game was to play our standard and I thought we did that -- especially in the first half," said UA head coach Caleb Porter in a press release. "This team continues to get better each and every game and that is a good sign. I still think we are just scratching the surface of what we are capable of but we are progressing in different ways each week."
