Bundesliga: Bayern beaten by Hamburg's Petric
Hamburg reclaimed top spot in the Bundesliga with a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich, who slipped down to sixth in the table.
Mladen Petric settled the contest in the 72nd minute thanks to an assist from former Bayern winger Ze Roberto. Hamburg were good value for their win, which ended Bayern's three-game winning streak at a sell-out HSV-Arena.
A late goal from Simon Rolfes earned Bayer Leverkusen a 1-0 win over Cologne and took them top prior to Hamburg's victory.
Rolfes settled a tight clash with local rivals Cologne when he picked up a pass from Tranquillo Barnetta, raced into the box and beat two defenders before firing in the winner off the post with eight minutes to play. Cologne, toothless throughout, finished with ten men after Maniche was sent off for kicking Arturo Vidal late in the game.
Schalke 04 won the big Ruhr valley derby against hosts Borussia Dortmund 1-0 thanks to a first-half strike by Jefferson Farfan to climb up to third place on 13 points.
Argentine Lucas Barrios came close for Dortmund when he forced a good save from Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer after meeting a Mats Hummels cross. Barrios was again unlucky when he saw his deflected shot hit the bar, with Neuer beaten, and bounce on the line.
Farfan struck after half an hour and against the run of play when Levan Kenia launched a quick counter-attack and found Halil Altintop on the left. He cut back and set up the Peruvian striker to slot home his third goal of the season. The visitors held off a barrage of attacks early in the second half but then could have sealed their win with big chances for Altintop and substitute Gerald Asamoah, with both firing just over the bar from close range.
Stuttgart collected just their second victory over the season, 3-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt, who finished the game with ten men and lost their first game of the campaign.
Julian Schieber scored in the 17th and 30th minutes for struggling Stuttgart before Frankfurt's Marco Russ was sent off in the 33rd. Thomas Hitzlsperger ended all doubt about the result with the visitors' third goal early in the second half.
Champions VfL Wolfsburg defeated Hanover 96 4-2 to move up to fifth, on 12 points, level with fourth-placed Werder Bremen who beat promoted Mainz 3-0 with Claudio Pizarro scoring two.
