Hull City star Geovanni is "very close" to signing a new deal with the Premier League club according to manager Phil Brown.
Geovanni's current contract expires at the end of the season and Brown is keen to keep last term's top goalscorer at the KC Stadium.
"The lad's heart and soul are in the club at the moment and hopefully, fingers crossed, we are very close to him putting pen to paper," Brown said. "Instead of us maintaining possession and getting the ball out to Geovanni so he can create for us, he has had to do a defensive role for us, which disappoints me."
Geovanni's ability to reverse Hull's slow start to the new campaign relies on improved service to the Brazilian from his team-mates, the manager said.
Geovanni has hit two goals so far this season, taking his total to ten for the club he joined in 2008.
