AS Roma manager Claudio Ranieri has risked the wrath of the club's fans by accusing captain Francesco Totti of having a predictable playing style.
Totti, 32, is Roma's all-time leading scorer with 231 goals in 547 games, and enjoys cult status among i Giallorossi supporters having played for the club all his career.
The forward has also netted ten goals in eight games already this season, including two hat-tricks, but Ranieri, speaking ahead of Sunday's home game with Fiorentina, said his captain needs to add more variety to his game.
"Totti has to change his way of playing a bit," he said. "Even the stones know he comes to meet the ball. He has got to be intelligent and make different movements."
The Roma boss, who has won one match and lost one since taking over at the Stadio Olimpico, insisted he was not trying to anger the club captain and still respected the Italy World Cup winner as a great player.
