Steaua coach Bergodi sacked after row with owner
Steaua Bucharest coach Cristiano Bergodi has been sacked after a disagreement with club owner Gigi Becali during their shock draw at home to FC Sheriff Tiraspol.
The Italian coach, who had only been in charge since June, has been replaced by Mihai Stoichita.
Becali made the change after Bergodi refused to let him into the dressing room at half-time of the Europa League tie.
Steaua had been widely expected to comfortably see off Sheriff but the Moldovan champions produced a plucky performance in their first ever match in the group stages of a European competition to record a famous draw.
Stoichita, who agreed to take over in the early hours of Friday morning, returns for his second spell in charge of Steaua having guided them to the Romanian league title and super cup in 1998.
