Manchester United youngster Craig Cathcart will continue his education with a spell in the Championship after Watford confirmed they have signed the defender on loan until January 4.
The 20-year-old was poised to join Newcastle United on transfer deadline day before reportedly failing a medical but he has now made the move to Vicarage Road.
Cathcart provides manager Malky Mackay with some Championship experience after he spent last season on loan at Plymouth Argyle, making 30 league starts for the Pilgrims.
The Northern Ireland youth international also spent the 2007-08 season on loan at United's affiliate club in Belgium, Royal Antwerp, and made 13 appearances.
After captaining United's reserve side, the Belfast-born defender will now hope to underline his claims for inclusion in Sir Alex Ferguson's first team squad by impressing at Watford, where he joins fellow Old Trafford youngster Tom Cleverley.
