Hart shrugs off job fears after worst ever start

Paul Hart insists he is not concerned about his job security despite leading Portsmouth to their worst ever start to a season in their 111-year history.

After a summer of instability at Fratton Park due to the prolonged nature of Sulaiman Al Fahim's takeover, the club have begun the new season in worrying form with Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Bolton Wanderers making it five defeats in succession.

Pompey have been widely tipped for relegation and Hart is currently the odds-on favourite to win the managerial sack race, despite the difficult circumstances in which he has operated in recent months.

But now the ownership issue has been resolved and the job of assimilating a legion of new signings is underway, Hart says he cannot afford to be preoccupied about the possibility of losing his job.

"I'm not concerned," Hart told the Portsmouth News. "That doesn't mean I don't value my job, though.

"It's not because there are people saying I'm going to be here all year, either. It's because that is something I can't afford to be worried about. I have more important things to deal with."

Portsmouth's troubles have been widely debated in the national media but Hart is not paying any attention to external critics as he aims to arrest a slump in form.

"It's not pleasant, but you can't argue with the situation we are in," Hart said. "I don't watch Match of the Day, though, I watch Coronation Street instead. The omnibus edition.

"There might be reasons for the position we are in, like having 14 players at the start of the season. But it's not for me to plead my case, I just get on with my job."
