Bremen's Brazilian star secures new contract

Bundesliga club Werder Bremen have announced that Brazilian defender Naldo has been rewarded with a new contract that runs until 2013.

Naldo signed the improved terms on Thursday, which was coincidentally his 27th birthday, and the new deal extends his commitment to the club by a further 12 months.

"We are happy to keep Naldo an additional year with Werder Bremen," general manager Klaus Allofs told the club's official website. "He is an important pillar in our game and has developed into one of the best defenders in the league."

Naldo joined Bremen from Juventude in 2005 and has been a key component of the side for the past four seasons. He has started the new campaign in impressive fashion too, scoring four goals in four games.

Naldo added: "Things are going very well for me with Werder. The entire atmosphere made this decision easy. In addition, my family and I really very welcome in Bremen."
