Diego Forlan has agreed a new deal at Atletico Madrid after lengthy negotiations.
The former Manchester United striker has been locked in talks for a number of months with Atletico's hierarchy and now the Uruguay international has agreed terms on a four-year deal which will make him one of the highest earners at the club.
"He is very integrated in the Atletico project," Forlan's agents commented.
Atletico's sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch confirmed the deal was close, with Forlan expected to put pen-to-paper once he returned from World Cup duty.
With Forlan's new deal done, Ateltico will now turn their attention to Sergio Aguergo, with the hope of persuading him to extend his contract.
