The numbers behind Arsenal's striker search

Colchester appoint former Hornets boss Boothroyd

Colchester United have announced the notable coup of appointing former Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd as their new manager.

Boothroyd departed his previous role at Vicarage Road in November 2008 and was appointed as Colchester boss on Wednesday morning, with the League One club calling a press conference to unveil their new man.

The club were forced to act after Paul Lambert's decision to move to Norwich City and in Boothroyd they have appointed a figure with an impressive CV.

Having been recruited from Leeds United where he held a coaching role, Boothroyd led Watford to promotion to the Premier League in his first season at Vicarage Road before suffering immediate relegation in the 2006-07 season.

Boothroyd also took Watford to the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 2007 but a poor start to the 2008-09 campaign saw him depart the Hertfordshire club by mutual consent.

He was briefly linked with the Norwich job but now replaces Lambert with Colchester fifth in League One having taken nine points from their opening five games.
