O'Dea signs new Celtic deal, then leaves on loan
Darren O'Dea has signed a new three-year deal with Celtic but has joined Reading on loan until January, the club announced.
The Irish defender has already made 50 competitive appearances for the club since his debut against St Mirren in September 2006.
O'Dea, 22, however, has asked to go out on loan until the turn of the year and has joined the Championship side in a loan deal.
Royals boss Rodgers is delighted to capture a player he has had on his radar for eight years.
He said: ''Darren is a very talented young defender and I think he will do really well for us. I'm delighted to bring in a player of his quality. I have known him since he was 14 and tracked his career since.
''He has just signed a new deal at Celtic and was very keen to come here and play. A number of clubs were chasing him and for him to choose us is great. He will be looking to get more games under his belt, but he also has good experience, including games in the Champions League. He has also been a captain at Celtic and that is a massive club.''
