Denmark lose second goalkeeper for Portugal match

Danish goalkeeper Jesper Christiansen will miss his side's World Cup qualifier against Portugal on Saturday after injuring his elbow in a Danish premier league match on Sunday.

Denmark had already lost first-choice goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen for the Copenhagen match because of a suspension.

FC Copenhagen's Christiansen was carried off the pitch after he collided with Brondby's Mikkel Bischoff in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw.

The injury means that the Group One leaders will need to use Stephan Andersen, who had been vying with Christiansen for the starting spot in goal.

Andersen played in a 3-2 qualifier victory over Portugal in Lisbon last September.

"We are lucky that we have so many good goalkeepers," Denmark coach Morten Olsen was quoted as saying in the daily Berlingske Tidende.

Christiansen was likely to be sidelined for four to six weeks, the daily newspaper Politiken said on its website.

Sorensen will be back from suspension for Denmark's qualifier against Albania in Tirana on September 9. The Danes are top of Group One after five wins in six games.
