Eredivisie: AZ Alkmaar win again to take top spot

Ronald Koeman's AZ Alkmaar registered their fourth straight win, beating Willem II 2-1, to move top of the Dutch league on Saturday.

The defending champions lost their opening match of the season but have improved since then and opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Brett Holman fired home after team mate Mounir El Hamdaoui had missed his kick.

Midway through the first half Sergio Zijler equalised from close range but a minute later central defender Hector Moreno restored the lead with a deflected shot.

Alkmaar are top with 12 points after five matches, two ahead of Feyenoord and Twente Enschede, who meet on Sunday in Rotterdam.

Newcomers VVV Venlo stayed unbeaten after holding NEC Nijmegen to a 1-1 draw, their fifth this season.
