Real confirm Inter deal for Sneijder

Real Madrid have accepted an offer from Inter Milan for midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

Media reports in Spain on Thursday claimed a deal had been struck between the two clubs for the Holland international, and Madrid have now confirmed that an agreement is in place.

The 25-year-old Sneijder joined Madrid in 2007 after five years with Ajax, and in his first season in Spain helped his new club win the Primera Division title.

But after Madrid's huge summer spending spree netted them Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso, the club's hierarchy are looking to move on a host of players to make room for their new recruits. The fee for Sneijder is believed to be around €15m.

"I think Inter is an amazing club, one of the biggest clubs in the world, so I'm very happy to be a player of Inter. It has been long, but finally I am here," Sneijder told a news conference after being given the number 10 shirt.

"I can say that Mourinho is 100 percent behind me so this was a very big part of my decision. I think I'm an attacking midfielder, so playing behind the strikers, yes, it's my position."

Inter, who drew their opening game of the Serie A season at home to Bari, have been searching for a playmaker. The reigning Italian champions had previously been unsuccessful in their bid to sign Deco from Chelsea and had recently been linked to Sampdoria's Antonio Cassano, the former Madrid player.

However, the Nerazzurri now finally look to have got their man and if the deal goes through then Sneijder will join an Inter squad that has already been boosted by the arrivals of Samuel Eto'o, Diego Milito, Lucio and Thiago Motta this summer.
