Chamakh happy to stay with French champions

Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh has stressed he is happy to remain with the French champions this season.

The 25-year-old Moroccan has wanted to leave Les Girondins since the end of last term, with England's Premier League his preferred destination.

But the Ligue 1 club are believed to have stood in the way of moves to Sunderland and Arsenal and the player rebuffed West Ham's interest.

He admitted last week he was ''pessimistic'' about his chances of leaving and now seems content to stay put.

''It is not until August 31 that it will be truly fixed,'' he told L'Equipe after last night's 4-0 romp over Nice.

''I stick to what I said - the balance is more in favour of Bordeaux. I refused West Ham. Frankly, there's no comparison.

''With games like that (Nice), victories and a squad as supportive, there is every reason to be happy.

''The support of the other players gives me great pleasure. Everyone insists that I stay. For now, I tell you, it's gone.''

Next up for Laurent Blanc's Bordeaux in Ligue 1 is a testing trip to the Stade Velodrome to take on Marseille

''We know what awaits us in Marseille,'' he said. ''We must prepare ourselves for that.

''This is not just an important match but a very important one. For them, it will be their first match at the Velodrome... Me, I believe and I believe we can do something there.''

With the inquiry into a fatal accident at OM's Stade Velodrome during the summer still ongoing, the Mediterranean side's first 'home' match of the season was played at Montpellier's Stade de la Mosson on August 16.
