Leverkusen boss wants more after Freiburg rout

Bayer Leverkusen coach Jupp Heynckes believes there is plenty of room for improvement despite seeing his side win 5-0 at Freiburg to go to the top of the Bundesliga.

Freiburg dominated the early stages of the match and Heynckes acknowledged the home team "could have and should have been 2-0 up'' before Stefan Kiessling gave his side the lead in the 35th minute.

Tranquillo Barnetta and summer signing Eren Derdiyok added two goals each to make the scoreline look more convincing than Leverkusen's performance actually was, according to their coach.

"It was a very strange game for us because Freiburg were by far the better team for the first 35 minutes,'' Heynckes explained. "They could and should have been 2-0 up, but like so often in football, you get punished for not taking your chances.

"This may sound strange after a 5-0 win but we were the luckier team.''

As a reward to his players following yesterday's win, Heynckes has given them two days off in the coming week, mainly because he feels he will need that long to analyse the match.

"I am going to need a long time on Tuesday to go over the first half because I really did not like it,'' he added.

"Being top of the league does not mean anything to me.''

The result left Freiburg rooted to the bottom of the table with just one point from their first three games back in the top flight.
