Three and easy for Lyon at Auxerre

Deposed champions Lyon moved to the top of Ligue 1 on Saturday night with a clinical 3-0 victory at struggling Auxerre.

Defender Jean-Alain Boumsong and midfielders Jean Makoun and Miralem Pjanic scored the goals as Les Gones moved onto seven points from three games.

Claude Puel's side lead Paris St Germain and Marseille on goal difference.

PSG continued their impressive start to the season with their first win at Valenciennes since 1977.

Peggy Luyindula, Mevlud Erding and Christophe Jallet were on the scoresheet in a highly entertaining encounter which saw the capital giants take a deserved three points in a 3-2 win.

Siaka Tiene pulled one back for VA just before the hour mark and Rudy Mater produced a stunning drive in stoppage time but to no avail.

OM, meanwhile, were held to a 1-1 draw at Rennes in the late kick-off.

Jerome Leroy had given the hosts a 37th-minute advantage from the penalty spot but Mamadou Niang secured a share of the spoils for the visitors with an equaliser seven minutes after the interval.

Nancy's flying start to the Ligue 1 campaign ended with a 2-1 defeat at Le Mans which saw them slip from top spot to fourth.

The Lorraine club went down tonight to goals from Thorstein Helstad and Anthony Le Tallec, with Damian Macaluso's late strike coming too late to trigger a rally for a point.

Frederic Nimani and Nene scored in the first half as Monaco recorded their second home win of the Ligue 1 season, 2-0 against Lorient at the Stade Louis II.

Newly-promoted Montpellier recorded their first win back in the top flight by sinking Sochaux 2-0 at Stade de la Mosson.

Rene Girard's southerners picked up the points courtesy of goals from Alberto Costa (penalty) and Karim Ait-Fana inside the last half-hour.

St Etienne's dismal start to the new continued as 10-man Boulogne-sur-Mer subjected them to their third consecutive defeat.

Alexandre Cuvillier scored the only goal of the game eight minutes before half-time, giving promoted Boulogne their second win of the campaign.

The visitors then had Guillaume Ducatel sent off after 70 minutes but St Etienne could not take advantage, despite three times hitting the woodwork.
