Blooming lose game and fined after player attack

Bolivian club Blooming have been fined and handed a 3-0 home defeat after a fan ran on to the field, attacked a visiting player and forced an international club match to be called off.

The South American Football Confederation (CSF) said on Tuesday that the Santa Cruz-based team would have to pay $10,000 following the incident in 66th minute of the game against Uruguay's River Plate on Aug. 11.

River Plate, leading 1-0, were given a 3-0 win in the Copa Sudamericana first round, first leg tie. The tournament is the region's equivalent of the Europa League.

"The referee reported a serious situation with the entry of a supporter on to the field of play," the CSF said in a statement.

River went ahead in the 61st minute, five minutes before the fan ran on to the field and attacked visiting striker Henry Gimenez.

The decision to call off the match sparked protests from Blooming fans, who hurled assorted missiles and flares on to the pitch.

The fan, reported by local media to be carrying a knife, was arrested.
