Berlusconi shuts door on further Milan signings

AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi has confirmed the club will not be signing any more players this summer.

The Rossoneri have brought in four new faces during pre-season, with the arrivals of Thiago Silva from Fluminense, Oguchi Onyewu from Standard Liege, Flavio Roma from Monaco and Klaas Jan Huntelaar from Real Madrid.

"Our market is closed,'' said Berlusconi. "Milan will have to find the strength to win with the players it has.''

Milan, who beat Juventus on penalties after a 1-1 draw to claim the Luigi Berlusconi trophy, begin the Serie A season at Siena on Saturday.

And the massive wages being paid to players are unacceptable in the current tough economic climate and a salary cap should be brought in, Berlusconi added.

"Footballers' salaries are outside reality. It is necessary to introduce a salary cap," Berlusconi was quoted as saying by the ANSA news agency on Tuesday.

"They are unacceptable, distant from the real economy in which we live in a difficult time like this. They are outside every parameter."

Berlusconi also denied speculation he intended to sell part of his stake in the Serie A club.
