KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Wizards have fired head coach Curt Onalfo.
The Wizards also announced Monday that assistant coach Kris Kelderman has been dismissed. On Tuesday, the team named technical director Peter Vermes as interim head coach through the rest of the 2009 season.
Wizards president Robb Heineman said the team felt a change needed to be made.
"Our shareholder group is thankful for Curt Onalfo's service over the last two-and-a-half seasons, but we felt a change needed to be made," Heineman said. "We are committed to developing high-performance and consistency around our club."
The Wizards (5-7-6) are in sixth place in the MLS Eastern Conference.
Onalfo took over before then 2007 season and finished with a 27-29-22 record in MLS play.
