NEW YORK -- DC United will play El Salvador's Chalatenango and the New York Red Bulls will face Trinidad's W Connection in the preliminary round of next season's CONCACAF Champions League.

MLS champion Columbus was drawn into Group C for the first round Thursday along with Costa Rica's Saprissa, the winner between Mexico's Cruz Azul and Costa Rica's Herediano and the winner between Toronto FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Houston was drawn into Group A with El Salvador's Metepan, Honduras' Olimpia and the winner between Mexico's Pachuca, the defending champion, and either Comunicaciones or Jalapa of Guatemala.

The DC United-Chalatenango winner will join Group B with Mexico's Toluca, Honduras' Marathon and the winner between San Juan Jabloteh and either Arabe Unido or San Francisco of Panama.
